EMTTU operates systematically in the framework of joint partnership schemes, bringing
together both business as well as academic organizations (academic-business partnerships).
This modality conforms to the modern approach, where such schemes maximize the possibility to
produce some notable and product/ service oriented results. In addition, it is widely realized
that targeted research is an expensive exercise that requires access to technical and other
infrastructures that may not be possible or even meaningful to maintain in the academic environment alone.
In this sense EMTTU should be primarily conceptualized as a human system, deeply
integrated in broader development initiatives, and capable to adding value to a number
of selected thematic areas.
EMTTU carries out projects and activities primarily in the EU, with a
special, though not exclusive, interest in the South Med territory, where it
is itself located. It seeks to build on this geographical advantage and gradually
leverage it into a true competitive advantage. Engaging in activities in the area is
a strategic priority.
EMTTU has a unique operational feature; though it is a public sector
body, liaised to an educational institute, the Technology Institute of
Crete, it is largely funded by the private sector, with which it maintains excellent relationships.
